The Hamlins established the Addis Ababa Fistula Hopsital to treat poor Ethiopian women that suffer from the horror of obstetric fistula.

How has the hospital helped women?

The hospital has helped Ethiopian women that have been shunned by their village and friends because of having obstetric fistula. Because of the services provided by the Addis Ababa hospital, these women are able to get back on their feet again and resume their normal lives with their friends and family. The hospital provides these women with life changing surgery for free and provide the women with clothes, food and a safe and nice place to stay while they recover. The women that come to these hospital do not have to pay anything and are often extremely grateful.

What else does the Addis Ababa Hospital do?

Another thing that the hospital provides is a training program for future midwives. Once these midwives are trained they are able to go to remote villages that would otherwise have no other assistance with childbirth, and provide life saving procedures that help the baby and mother survive through child birth.
